A book win - Talking To The Dead - Harry Bingham

I won this from booksbiscuitsandtea, thank you Vicky, and realised when I picked it up, that I have already read it.  Not a problem, my memory isn't great, so I don't remember who did it, but I did remember that I had a big problem with the detective.  She's lovely.  Very enjoyable character, intelligent, quirky, and I would be very happy with her as an insurance investigator say.  But.  I just cannot believe that someone who had suffered a serious mental illness, documented in her medical records, would ever get in the police.  I just can't get past this.  Still, I will ignore that, and enjoy reading the story again.

Reading an actual book, I realise how much I now prefer the kindle.  I never thought I would when they first came out, but now, with my eyes being stupid so often, I do like being able to make the text as large as is comfortable.  It's less of an effort than using my reading glasses and a paper book.  Oh well.  Thank science for kindles!

September wins

£10 Top Shop voucher
Time Bandits bluray steelbook - Hey You Guys rafflecopter, heyuguys competitions
LA Confidential bluray - Empire
£50 Amazon voucher, National Express - bought Ian Rankin - The Impossible Dead  on kindle last night, and Lisa's having fun with latex.  Making a halloween mask, nothing naughty!
£50 Tesco voucher, Robinson Fruitshoot
Luxe Edition Crystal Slant Tweezers from tweezerman - crazy price!  These arrived today, and, okay, they are pretty, but I don't really see the point.  I mean, who would see them?  Not like you pluck stray whiskers in public.  Well, I don't anyway. Here -  sparkly tweezers - like these, but mine are purple.  I would happily sell them, half retail price, but I really don't know any sparkly princesses that would feel the need.  Let me know if you do...  Otherwise I will keep them, and use them, and wonder...
Vileda mop - Not so sparkly, but useful.
Voucher for Zoflora

Wednesday 26 June 2013

What's in my handbag?

I spotted this competition on www.moneysupermarket.com ages ago, and now, here is my entry!  Hope if you see this, you have a go too.  Closes in a few days, you've got until midnight Monday, 1st July.

Simply write a blog post to tell us what is in your handbag. We’re interested to see pictures of your handbags and what you’ve got in them, which will really help us to get to know you better and piece together just what the average handbag contains.
As part of your post, make sure you take into account just how much the items (including your handbags) are worth. From a designer purse to expensive foundation, the value of the contents of our bags can soon add up.

Well!  I don't carry a handbag.  I'm too busy trying to stay on my feet for that.  But here's what I have on my attractive 3-wheeled walker.

So a cloth bag, free from some competition win or promo
Doggy poo bags £2.50 for a load of them
Keys, guessing about £20 to get them recut.  My partner would change the lock if needed, she wouldn't pay someone to do that.
Phone - easy to use with big buttons, no fancy functions.  I want to be able to talk and text.  I think that was my request!  Can't remember, but maybe £40?
Torch - £20
Sweets!  £1
In winter, maybe some lip salve.

So there we are!  I don't think this is a typical bag, but as this is what I take with me when I walk my dog, it's my bag.  And even just that is over £80.

Wednesday 5 June 2013

I've won Butter London Starkers Collection

Just had a message on twitter saying I'd won this giveaway - http://www.ascottishlass.net/2013/04/butter-london-starkers-collection.html  How lovely!  My nails are strong and long at the moment, not sure how I've managed that, but looking forward to those colours.  I think they will suit me.  I hope!  Thank you Laura.

Yay!

Monday 3 June 2013

Gorgeous Green Win

A big big thank you to Emma for hosting this competition on her blog - www.theminimesandme.com

I won £30 to spend at www.wikaniko.com/shop/ and I had a lovely time selecting items.  Guilt free too, I'm not spending my own money, AND they offer a range of greener products for the bathroom, cleaning, gifts, go have a look.

I chose

Unwind Bathsalts
Bamboo Bathtowel
Bamboo Trainer Socks x 2
Incense sticks x 2

I've been wanting to try something made with bamboo fibre for ages, so really looking forward to feeling just how soft it is.  The bathsalts and incense for a little pampering treat.

Thank you again Emma, and Anne at Greenerdays.

30 Ways to Save £1

Only just seen this, bit late, but I'm determined to enter.  It's a compulsion.  And it has to be in today!

If you don't know what I'm on about, it's this - http://www.moneysupermarket.com/30-ways-to-save-1-pound/

  1. Join a library.  If there's one near you that is, I know kindle books, and second hand books are cheap, but a library is free.  Great way to spend some time with children too.
  2. Don't buy bottles of coke or whatever when out, take squash or water with you.  That adds up.
  3. Same for chocolate.  Well.  Just don't buy it.  This is tricky for some of us I know.
  4. Enter competitions!  This only works if you are lucky and actually win stuff.  I'm having a lucky year so far but I wouldn't recommend giving up work for it.
  5. Try going down a brand when shopping.  Sometimes you don't notice much difference.  Especially in shampoo.
  6. Your pet won't mind not having a designer collar.  Don't buy it!  It's spent years getting the old one nice and comfy.
  7. If you knit, do you REALLY need to buy that wool?  Don't you have 14 big bags of the stuff hidden about the house?  Same goes for fleece for spinners, fabric for dressmakers.
  8. And if 7. applies to you, why not sell surplus craft stash on to other crafters.  Or swap some.
  9. If you love charity shopping, are you sure you need that jacket?  You've bought 8 already this year.  I know they are relatively cheap, but still.
  10. If 9 applies to you, why not carboot all the clothes you don't need.  Extra cash you could spend on more things at charity shops guilt free!
  11. Made too much for dinner?  Don't serve out extra large portions, freeze in portions for homemade ready meals.
  12. Tempted to buy yellow sticker veg because it's just too cheap to miss?  Good idea, but make soup and freeze some rather than leave it to go off in the bottom of the fridge.
  13. Love a manicure but can't justify the money?  Have a friend, or your mum, round for coffee, and do each others hands and nails.  Why not?
  14. Don't buy that magazine!  Look how much it is!  Or at least just buy one and then swap with your  neighbour.
  15. Gym fees.  Lots more than £1.  If you must keep that membership going, make sure you get value for money out of it.  But jogging or walking with friends would be cheaper.  So think about cancelling it as soon as you can.
  16. If you use buses, do you have the best value bus card?  Do check.
  17. Same for trains, lots of discount cards, young person, student, disabled, and book in advance online.  Big savings to make.
  18. Love your pet?  Save money by not overfeeding.  Pet food isn't cheap, and vet bills really aren't cheap.  Could link in with gym fees...
  19. You sure you need all that Sky or cable?  Really?  Go down a package, you won't die.
  20. Don't buy expensive coffee when out.  Be organised and take a flask.
  21. Same for sandwiches, I mean, how much?  If you aren't a morning person, you could always make a batch of say pate sarnies on nice bread and freeze them for the week.  Will be defrosted by lunch.
  22. To save even more pennies, use yellow sticker bread and pate, make them up the night you buy them, for really cheap sandwiches.
  23. You don't need to throw out that blouse just because a button fell off.  You are bound to have a spare somewhere.  It's not hard to sew one back on, really.
  24. Only you still up late?  You don't need the heating on, just have a blanket over your knee.  I know, but if you are on your own, there's no one to see.
  25. Back to buying books, you sure you don't have boxes of them in the loft?  They've probably been up there so long you've forgotten them.  Read them again before you buy any more.
  26. So a favourite pair of boots has a bust zip?  Don't chuck them out and buy new ones.  Get them fixed at a cobblers.
  27. Do keep your boots and shoes polished, I know, a very mumsy thing to say.  But!  They will last longer and look smarter.
  28. Love seeing new films in the cinema?  Sign up to seefilmfirst.com.  Be quick to respond and see new films for free.  Really.
  29. No room to stock up when your favourite brands are on special offer?  Share with your mum, or neighbour.  Save money, and you won't be stuck with stacks of the stuff.
  30. You sure you need a snack?  Try sipping drink of water first.  Good for the diet and the purse.
And I've done it!  I could go on and on.  Boring anyone that finds it.  If anyone DOES read this today, you've only got today to write your own and enter!

Wednesday 1 May 2013

Sometimes the right person wins...

Okay, so maybe I'm biased a little.  I saw a twitter comp yesterday with only 20 minutes to go for an Illamasqua powder eye shadow.  I told my daughter about it, just as well she was online, and she won.  Yay!  Her twitter pic fits the brand rather better than mine.  She doesn't know which one she'll be getting, but they all look gorgeous - Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadows   At £15.50, a nice little prize, she normally has to wait for a sale to treat herself to one.

Saturday 13 April 2013

Depeche Mode ticket for London O2

My daughter has a standing ticket to Depeche Mode to sell, at O2 London, 28th May. Just wants the ticket price back, exam forces sale. Let me know if you want it.  It cost her £62.25 what with all the booking and postage.  She only learnt the date of a 48 hour exam after she'd booked it, and as it's her final year, she really can't risk it.

Yay - ticket is on its way to a fan.

Tuesday 2 April 2013

March wins!

Another month gone by, rather successful again.  Maybe the car, cash or holiday is later in the year.  But I mustn't be greedy!

£35 spend on takeout at hungryhouse.com, thanks to webuyanycar.com on twitter.
OPI  nail colour thanks to look dailies, no idea what colour, will wait and see.

Wednesday 27 March 2013

Win a Chi Chi dress and Caviar nails

No, I'm not running it, but someone's got to win.  Let me know if it's YOU!

Enter on facebook here!

It's open for 5 more days, rafflecopter, so very easy.  Might as well enter!  I'm sure my daughter could find something she liked.  Oh yes, nearly forgot to say, your choice of dress.  Which is nice.

Floffy hair

My Baby

Okay, so she's not exactly a baby, but isn't she gorgeous?  And I wanted to see if I could manage to post a picture.  Stolen from her facebook.  Floffy = goth + fluffy. Daft I know. This shows why I enter to win lots of make up.  No idea where she gets it from, but she's loved doing her hair and makeup from her mid teens.  I could never be bothered to be a goth, leather jacket and a touch of black eyeliner was more my look.  She doesn't always look quite like this, this was for an 80s night, so she's vamped it up to the max.

Sunday 17 March 2013

Snoozy Sunday

Actually, I feel snoozy every day.  MS does get rather tedious.  I'm going to do 5 minutes on the exercise bike anyway, if I don't, my thigh muscles will just vanish.  Scary stuff.  Five minutes, that's all, on the lowest setting, and I'm wiped out.  I do try not to dwell on how things used to be, I mean, there really is no point in getting upset about it, but sometimes I do indulge in a spot of self pity.  I (I again, too many I s) used to cycle to work, walk miles, and now?  Grr.  I'm struggling to wobble the dog around the duck pond.  And I can't manage that every day.

Still.  Got that moan over with.  Another Times hourly comp today.  Yesterday was to win a ridiculously expensive mixer, today a short break, with dinner.  Would be nice, but maybe it's a little greedy to want another Times hourly win.  My daughter's birthday pressie last year was a good one from them.  And I do want to read blogs and enter blog comps today.

Well, if I can't actually DO much, I can at least win random stuff.  Or try to.

Thursday 7 March 2013

Yay! Product of the year goody bag win

womansownmagazine.co.uk/competition/goody_bag

Okay, so it's not the biggest prize I've won, but there is something so satisfying about a goody bag like this.  Maybe it's just me...

Right, I've got to get ready to go to my gran's for a few days.  She's 96 and still living independently.  She'll have cake ready for us.

Monday 4 March 2013

March already...

I've got my new glasses now, things haven't looked this sharp in a long time.  And reading glasses too, magic!  I can read again.  Strange this getting old business.

Some nice little prizes last month

Grappling gloves from lockdownfightwear.com/, okay so I wouldn't know what to do with them, but my partner is happy

The Agincourt Bride by Joanna Hickson in paperback.  From Woman's Own Magazine daily entry comps.  I rather fancy their comp for a CoolFire Tea Light Holder so I'll keep entering that when I remember.

Blinkbox on twitter said they would send me some popcorn, I'll chase that.

Lots of baking and icing goodies!  Thanks to the Piping Fairy  Baking goodies!

Disney goody bag from National Holidays.  That was on competwition.  I received a cute soft Mickey, a Mickey pen and a Disney beaker with lid and straw.

And £35 to spend on takeout through hungryhouse.co.uk thanks to webuyanycar.com on twitter.  My student daughter and housemates in York will benefit from that.

FAB LFW Radley Tote and goodies giveaway!

The Pre-trender is holding this generous giveaway

http://thepretrender.blogspot.co.uk/20T13/02/london-fashion-weekend-showbag-giveaway.html

Honestly, other than the bag, I don't know which item I like the look of most.  Glossfinity Nail Polish by Max Factor, Angels Nails does look particularly gorgeous

Do enter!  It uses rafflecopter, so very easy and you know it's all done properly.

Tuesday 26 February 2013

Lovely makeup giveaway!

Daisy Meadow is running a fab giveaway, I just love the Urban Decay Basics Palette.  Okay, so I hardly ever wear makeup, but it doesn't stop it being a gorgeous set.  I know my daughter would love it, so here's hoping I win!  If you happen to read this, then do enter  Daisy Meadow's giveaway  .

It's run using rafflecopter, which does take some getting used to.  But honestly, give it a try, at least you know your entry has been counted properly.

Sunday 17 February 2013

http://www.thepipingfairy.com/2013/02/new-giveaway-win-bundle-of-baking.html

I won!  Thank you Becky, what a great excuse to bake and eat more cakes.  My parents are running the Cilcain Community Cafe one Saturday next month, profits to the MS Trust, so it's good timing.  Yay!  I so love being told I'm a winner.

Thursday 7 February 2013

Isn't it a shame you can't win good health?

I've been feeling over the past few days, longer if I'm honest, how narrow my life is now.  On Monday my mum collected me (and kindle) to sit and chat with the craft group and have lunch afterwards.  Then I took Max for a very short walk around the duck pond. Then sat in the car while Lisa went to buy a more comfortable seat for the exercise bike and we went into Sainsburys to pick up a few things.  Hardly mad gadding about is it?  I slept most of the next day and yesterday and haven't felt up to going out.  Urgh.

Still, I'll struggle Max around the duck pond later, and probably need yet another nap.

Thursday 31 January 2013

January Catchup

So, what's happened this month?  Lovely party for little Brooke's christening, I was very happy with lots of savoury eats followed gorgeous meringue and fruit salad.

Wins!

My daughter had the big one - that ipad mini from the Sun.  Which was nice!

I've not had anything that big, but still, enough to keep me happy.

  • Family Guy dvd from Look magazine, the daily entries.
  • A pink leather diary from @TeamJslater http://www.julieslaterandson.co.uk/ It's lovely!
  • Pringles speaker, win or freebie we don't mind. Doesn't sound bad at all!
  • Bronze Ambition Limited Edition Gift Pack - lots of self tan, 12 bottles, application mitt, and a bag. Also from Look.
  • Thanks to http://www.babystuffilove.blogspot.co.uk/ I entered for borax without noticing that it was USA only. But she let me nominate a friend when I won! So I'll count it as a win, and if any US friends are reading this, do visit her blog.
  • My last win of the month http://www.geeknative.com/36825/competition-fringe-septembers-notebook/ Looking forward to seeing this, looks cool.
  • According to Real People on line, I've won 13 on DVD. Wonder if I'll ever get that? I didn't get an email telling me about it, but I wouldn't think there's another of me in Ruthin, it's a tiny place.

So, I'll see what the rest of the year brings, that's a nice start.

Sunday 27 January 2013

http://www.lifewithliv.co.uk/2013/01/win-2-lamaze-wrist-rattles.html

I've entered this little competition to win cute little rattles.  So many of our friends and family are having little ones I'm sure to find a loving home.  Why don't you enter too?

Saturday 26 January 2013

Depeche Mode PAIN!

My poor daughter.  She's bought a ticket for their London concert this year, and was SO looking forward to it.  To find out that she has a 48 hour exam then.  And she really can't miss it, it's her final year.  So she best not miss it.  Sad though, they don't tour often.

Thursday 24 January 2013

(What happened here then?  forgot to press the publish button.  So it's in the wrong place now and I don't know how to change that.  Oh well!)

I forgot I started this!  Oh well. It's been a good comping year, 2 tellies, another xbox 360.  And one of those tellies was from wombling.  I picked up an empty packet of crisps near the skate park, entered online, and won a £600 odd telly!  Which was nice.  What else this year, biggies, £500 from pepsi, my mum won too, and £500 to spend at silly expensive clothes from the Sunday Times, one of those hourly comps.

Trouble is, I spend far too much time comping to be bothered blogging about it.

My ms?  That trundles on being very boring.  I've fallen a couple of times walking Max, it's getting harder.  But.  What can you do?

Quite.  Comp on!
Must get my eyes tested, verticals have this strange kink.  Not sure that's right.  Still, at least my phone works.  My parents are now on day 28 of their phone crackling so much you can't hear what is being said.  Come on BT, wake up!  My dad's latest status on facebook - How about a competition ? Can you come up with some new and creative excuses for BT. The prize I would offer would be a signed and matted print of a picture of a BT Openreach van If I can see one to photograph near our house.  Now, I know I enter for just about anything, but not sure he'll get many takers for this one...

Strange

I almost can't remember what it was like for walking to be no effort.  I took a competition entry to the postbox just now, not far at all.  Local paper, win a cointreau cocktail set. Was really struggling by the time I got back home again, legs just didn't want to work, was walking so slowly.  Grrr.  Oh well.  Maybe it's time for a game of scrabble.

Can't believe I've forgotten about this for so long!  It's now 2013.

MS update - walking is getting harder, it's not much fun.  I've borrowed my parents'  exercise bike to try to build up a little strength and maintain range of movement.  I can't walk far enough to keep fit now.  Grrr.  Still, Max isn't keen on being out for long in this weather, he doesn't like the rain in his face.  Huge GSD, loves swimming in the river, and doesn't like his face getting wet.  Daft creature.

Comping-wise?  Well, my daughter rang me today to say she's won an ipad mini!  That was the Sun hourly comp back in november that I told her about, so I'll count it as a win.  That's pretty cool!  Lovely to get the excited phone call.  She'd missed the email saying she was a winner, as she didn't think it was anything, so just went to the post office with the card to collect a missed parcel.  She'd had the card a few days too as she's been busy with university work.  Goodness!  Good thing she collected that one!

So far this month I've won some tanning goop and a dvd from look magazine online.  The daily entries.  The dvd has arrived already, still waiting on the goop.  Also waiting for a lovely pink diary from @TeamJSlater .  And how could I forget the little speaker that clips to a pringles tub.  Actually, for a freebie, it's great!  And, dreadful I know, I had to buy and eat some Pringles for my partner to be able to use it.  What a task.

So.  Hopes for the year.
That my daughter graduates well - well enough that makes her feel it was all worth while.
To win a second Ipad of some sort.  My partner would really really like one.  We don't buy toys, just wait for me to win them.
For good health for us all.  As well as we can manage at least.
